Nestled in the awe-inspiring Tierra Blanca Canyon, just south of Amarillo, TX and 20 miles west of the 2nd largest canyon in America, Palo Duro Canyon, lies a beautiful place called Dove Creek Ranch.

Leaving the city behind, you find yourself in a wonderfully relaxing and healing oasis on the High Plains.

Every canyon carved into the Texas Panhandle

(Llano Estacado) is a geological wonder.  Their fragile ecosystems are oases of plant and animal life, where the spirit of the high plains still exists - places we can commune with nature and discover our ancestral footprints.

Two hundred fifty million years ago, Dove Creek Ranch lay beneath a shallow sea.  Over time the waters subsided, allowing the multi-layered strata of erosion and deposit to become the building blocks of the Ogallala Formation, otherwise known as the "Caprock".  Then like a sculptor's chisel, wind and water gradually etched winding crevasses deep into the level prairie, creating ancient canyons with their lovely variations of color, depending on the light and time of day. Dove Creek Ranch was born!

An Oasis on the High Plains

The primary operations at the ranch are our Nonprofit Horse Rescue, our Signature Grass-Fed Beef operation, Horse and Rider Services and Facilities Rental. In addition to these areas of service, Dove Creek Ranch offers a family style ranch house, great for retreats and workshops. We offer 2 indoor riding arenas with a wash stall and 1500 acres of canyons and high plains to ride, hike and explore.

Dove Creek Ranch is family owned and operated. It has been a treasure to the Higgins family since 1996. The Higgins' appreciate the beauty of the Texas panhandle, and they are committed to taking good care of the land and animals. Ecological and sustainable practices are currently being implemented throughout the ranch operations. From rainwater catchment, composting, recycling to exploring solar energy possibilities - the Higgins' family continues to create new opportunities to allow this beautiful Oasis to be shared with others.
